Barron's best online brokers/brokerages 2010
|
Barron's magazine released its annual online stock broker ratings results for 2010 (see table below). Brokerage firms
were rated on Trade Experience, Trading Technology, Usability, Ranges of Offerings, Research,
Portfolio Analysis, Customer Service and Costs. Data regarding costs and fees is based on accounts with $100,000 in assets.
Thinkorswim
got the highest score according to Barron's magazine. While we agree that the firm offers a lot to its customers
(we give it 4 stars in our review), we also believe that its commissions are on the higher side. Barron's #7 and #9 choices -
TradeKing and
OptionsHouse
- offer much lower commissions with similar level of services. While Thinkorswim charges $10 per trade, TradeKing charges
only $5 and OptionsHouse just $2.95! These savings on investing/trading costs if accumulated
through the years will amount to a substantial sum. Both TradeKing and OptionsHouse scored well on all most important
categories: Customer Service, Trade Experience and Research Amenities.
