Is it possible to get $1 stock trades?
|
Many people are asking me if there are brokerage firms that charge
$1 or less to buy/sell stocks. And my answer is "Yes". Stock broker commissions came
down a lot during the last decade. The competition among
top brokerage houses is
intense and that means low prices and huge savings in trading costs for investors
who are willing to shop around and transfer their account to another company.
There are, in fact, three discount stock brokerage firms where you could buy and sell stocks
for one dollar. But with conditions. Let’s take a closer look at them.
Zecco gives you 10 FREE stock trades EVERY month if you have at
least $25,000 account balance OR make at least 25 trades a month. Otherwise it’s
flat-rate of $4.50 per trade (which is extremely good). So with Zecco you could
actually trade for free if you have $25K and make up to 10 trades a month. And
you could have about $1 stock commissions if you have $25K in balance and make 11-13
trades a month.

LightSpeed Trading charges just $0.0039 per share with $0.40 (yes, forty cents)
minimum commission. With that rate all orders of up to 250 shares will cost you $1 or less!

Interactive Brokers commission is somewhat higher than in LightSpeed Trading: $0.005 per share with $1
minimum for SMART routed orders. This means that if you buy up to 200 shares it will
cost you $1. You have to keep in mind additional
costs though: Interactive Brokers will charge you $10 per month if your trading
commissions are less than $30 per month.
