Money Withdrawal from M1 Finance Account
M1 Finance offers a couple of different cash withdrawal methods to fit the different needs of its customers. The main withdrawal methods are ACH and wire transfers, and both are fairly easy to use. However, M1’s account rules for settlement, holding periods, and withdrawals mean there may be a few extra steps before your money is ready to leave the account.
Keep reading to see how it works.
M1 Finance Withdrawal Fee
Withdrawing money from M1 Finance by ACH is free of charge. Using a wire transfer comes with a $25
fee.
Withdrawal Methods at M1 Finance
The easiest way to withdraw funds from M1 Finance is by using Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers. These transfers are fast and easy, which makes them the most convenient way to move money out of your brokerage account.
Despite that convenience, ACH transfers do come with transfer limits. Because of that, M1 Finance also provides customers with a wire transfer option for withdrawals.
Both withdrawal methods are easy to set up and use, but each one has its own advantages and drawbacks. The best choice for you will depend on your specific needs and expectations.
Here are the details for each type:
M1 Finance ACH Withdrawals
Setting up an ACH transfer is simple. From the Home tab, select ‘Move Money’ and then choose ‘One-time Transfer’ and
follow the steps provided.
The transfer tool lets you move money between all of your connected
accounts. So for a withdrawal, you need to select your bank account as the ‘transfer to’ account.
If you don’t see your bank account listed, it means you have not set up a link to your bank account yet. To connect a bank account for an Invest account, navigate to the ‘Invest’ tab and select the ‘Bank Connection’ option to get the process started.
M1 Finance ACH Withdrawal Limits
ACH transfers generally have a $50,000 daily limit per transfer from your brokerage account. M1 High-Yield Cash accounts have a higher daily ACH limit of $120,000. If you need to move more than your ACH limit in one day, consider using a wire transfer.
M1 Finance Wire Withdrawals
When it comes to M1’s wire transfers, one of the most common questions is where the withdrawal option can be found. For an outgoing wire from an M1 Invest account, the process begins through M1’s support messenger. From there, you select the transfer-related prompts and provide the information M1 requests.
Providing the requested information gets the process started, but the support team still needs to review the request and confirm that your funds are settled and available for withdrawal.

M1 Finance Wire Transfer Limits
To avoid any possible delays or complications, there are a few important details and rules to understand before getting started with M1’s wire transfer process.
Funds generated from selling securities can only be withdrawn after a settlement period of one trading day (T+1).
New deposits to M1 Invest are subject to a holding period of 6 business days before they can be withdrawn.
For the first 60 days, due to Anti-Money Laundering regulations, funds can only be returned to the original bank.
International wires are not supported. If you're an international customer, you would need access to a U.S. institution that can receive the wire.
If you intend to wire funds to a personal account that is not actively connected with M1, you must provide a recent statement from the receiving bank and a copy of your government-issued photo ID. A signed Letter of Acceptance may be required for a third-party wire.
Lastly, to have your wire transfer processed on the same day on a best-effort basis, submit your request by 12pm CST.
M1 Finance Transfer Fees
The fees for withdrawals at M1 depend on the type of transfer you use. For ACH transfers, you won’t pay anything. For wire transfers, there is a $25 fee.
M1 Finance Transfer Timelines
For ACH withdrawals, if the amount is within your withdrawable cash, you can often expect to see the funds arrive in your bank account in 1 to 2 business days. If the withdrawal is larger and requires sales or additional settlement time, it can take up to 5 to 7 business days. For wire transfers, requests submitted with all required information by 12pm CST are typically processed the same day on a best-effort basis, but the full transfer can still take up to 5 business days to complete.

I work in investment analytics and have been investing in the market since I was in high school. I enjoy anything that involves lots of strategy (i.e. a good game of chess), which is why I was naturally drawn to investing and researching companies. Outside of investing, I’m a big fan of the outdoors. In summer, you’re most likely to find me kayaking, camping, and hiking in the mountains.
