Withdrawing Money From tastytrade
tastytrade customers have several methods available to move cash out of an account. Here are the details:
Online Transfer Tool
The starting point for making a withdrawal from a tastytrade account is to log in to my.tastytrade.com, click Manage at the top
of the page, and then go to My Money > Withdrawals. Doing so will open a new page with several withdrawal methods arranged by tabs. We will look at these now.
How to Withdraw Cash from tastytrade By ACH
On the far-left side of the withdrawal page is a tab for ACH withdrawals. Click on this to get the broker’s ACH withdrawal tools. tastytrade has helpfully laid out the steps needed to complete the transfer, so the form is very easy to use.
The first step is to select the tastytrade account you want to withdraw from in case you have more than one. After choosing the account, the amount of cash available for withdrawal will be shown to the right. This is another feature that makes moving funds very simple.
The second step is to choose the receiving bank account. Either a checking or savings account can be linked for an ACH withdrawal. If you haven’t connected a deposit account yet, you can do that on the transfer form.
tastytrade uses Plaid for instant connections, although the Plaid window includes a link to connect manually. This second option requires account and routing numbers and takes about 3 business days to complete. The regular Plaid method requires login credentials for the bank account and links immediately.
After selecting the bank account to receive the funds, enter the withdrawal amount and submit the request. If the request is entered before the daily cutoff time, it is generally processed that day when possible. Funds typically arrive in the linked bank account in 1 to 3 business days.

How to Withdraw Cash from tastytrade By Wire
The next tab is for wire withdrawals. Although ACH withdrawals are free, wires are not. tastytrade charges $25 for a wire to a domestic bank. The wire fee goes up to $45 if the receiving bank is located outside the United States.
Although more expensive, the wire option provides faster delivery. Domestic wire transfers are typically received the next business day if requested before the cutoff time. International wires can take 3 to 5 business days after the request is submitted.
As with an ACH withdrawal, the first step here is to select the outgoing tastytrade account in case you have more than one. The second step is a little more involved in this case, especially if the receiving account is at a foreign bank.
If you select a foreign bank account, you will need to supply IBAN, SWIFT, and BIC numbers. There is also a checkbox to add For Further Credit if you need to do so.
Finally, the withdrawal amount is a required field.
tastytrade does not permit a wire to be sent to a third party.

By Check
The third and final withdrawal option on this transfer form is withdrawal by paper check. Once again, the first step is to choose the outgoing tastytrade account, and the available cash amount will once again be shown.
As with a wire request, a check cannot be made out to a third party. The check will be made out to the name on the account and sent to the address on file. If either of these needs to be updated, go back up to the main menu on the website and hover over My Profile instead of My Money. In the drop-down menu, select Personal. On the next page, you can update your address. For any other help, such as changing the name on an account, you can reach out to tastytrade for help. There is a chat tool in the bottom-right corner. It starts in robo form but during some weekday hours you might get a human associate on the line.
Now, it’s time to enter the withdrawal amount. Finally, submit the transfer and tastytrade will get to work on it. A check request will take the longest amount of time to arrive (5 to 10 business days), and there is a $5 fee for the service. tastytrade offers an overnight service for $50.
Checking the Status of a Withdrawal
After submitting a withdrawal request, tastytrade will show its status on its website. To the right of the By Check tab there is a tab for scheduled withdrawals. Click on this to get a list of upcoming withdrawals. The list only displays requests during the past 30 days. The list can be filtered by time and a host of other issues, such as pending, completed, and rejected.
Moving Assets to a Second tastytrade Account
Using tastytrade’s well-designed website, it’s possible to transfer cash to a second tastytrade account. To do this, go back to Manage > My Money and select Transfers instead of Withdrawals. There is no fee for any type of internal transfer.
On the Transfers page, just follow the same steps we have already seen for ACH and wire withdrawals. This time, the outgoing account will be a second tastytrade account instead of an external bank account. The tastytrade site will automatically populate the receiving account with any tastytrade accounts that are already open. A closed account may show up in either field, although it cannot be selected.
If you don’t yet have a second tastytrade account, it’s easy to open one online. Just click on the Home icon at the very top of the website after logging in and scroll down to the bottom to where you see the Open an Account button. Adding margin or options privileges to the new account will slow down the approval process.
After selecting the receiving account, it’s time to specify the transfer amount. Internal cash transfers are processed overnight and funds are available in the receiving account the following morning.
Besides cash, securities and other asset types can be moved to a linked tastytrade account. However, this requires a paper form.
Other tastytrade Withdrawal Methods
In addition to the cash movements described above, tastytrade also participates in brokerage transfers. These will move securities from a tastytrade account to an external investment firm. These are much more expensive than the choices we have seen so far, so they’re not for the faint of heart.
The first option is a DRS/DWAC transfer. The cost is $115 per symbol, and this fee is actually charged by Apex, tastytrade’s clearing firm. Moreover, if a transfer request doesn’t go through due to a mismatch of information, Apex charges $125.
To perform a DRS/DWAC transfer out of a tastytrade account, you must send a signed letter to banking@tastytrade.com. The letter should include the ticker symbols to be moved, the number of shares, and the relevant tastytrade account number.
An ACAT transfer is a little cheaper at $75. This type of transfer is initiated with the incoming brokerage firm, so there are no instructions to show on the tastytrade side of things. Cash can be moved in an ACAT transfer, although an ACAT is rather slow. Expect about 7 to 10 business days for assets to show up in the receiving account.
Checking on an Account’s Balance Details
Next to the My Money tab on the website is a My Accounts tab. Hover over this and click on Balances in the drop-down menu. This will pull up balance details for all accounts. A drop-down menu at the top of the balances page can be used to shuffle among multiple accounts. The cash balance line shows the amount that can be withdrawn. Other lines include option buying power and short stock value.
Required Minimum Distributions for IRAs
Traditional IRAs at tastytrade can take RMDs via wires, internal transfers, checks, and ACH transfers. An internal transfer must be sent to a non-retirement account to qualify as a required distribution.
RMD requests can be started through my.tastytrade.com.
Why Can’t I Withdraw Cash from tastytrade?
Cash deposits cannot be withdrawn from tastytrade until 5 business days have passed after the deposit posts to the account. For example, say you submit a deposit request on the tastytrade website on Monday morning, and the funds show up the following day on Tuesday. That’s when the clock starts ticking, and the funds would generally be available for withdrawal on the following Tuesday.
tastytrade also has this frustrating policy of restricting withdrawals to the same bank account that deposited funds. If you want to withdraw funds to a different bank account, the money must sit in the tastytrade brokerage account for at least 60 days.
Cash generated from sales of investments must settle before it is taken out. Trades of options and futures settle the following business day. Stock and ETF trades also settle the following business day.
tastytrade Withdrawal Limits and Cutoff Times
For ACH transfers, there is a limit of $250,000 at tastytrade. The cut-off time for a withdrawal to be considered requested that day is 1:00 pm, CST.
An internal cash transfer is limited to $250,000. Internal cash transfers are processed overnight, and same-day transfers are not offered.
For internal transfers of assets (securities, cryptos, and futures), the required paper form must be received by 11:00 am, CST, for it to be considered received on that day.
Cash Management on the Mobile App
The tastytrade mobile app provides another platform where cash inside a brokerage account can be analyzed. After logging into the app, swipe up from the small green tab, which will be found in the lower-right corner. A small balance window will pop up. This shows the account’s cash balance along with a few other details like option buying power.
A transaction history page is also available on the app. ACH deposits and withdrawals can be submitted on the mobile app when a bank account is linked through Plaid. If a bank must be linked manually through micro-deposits, that setup needs to be completed on my.tastytrade.com.
