Coinbase Credit Card Review

Highlights:

• Coinbase is launching a new credit card in partnership with American Express.

• A premium membership is required at Coinbase to get the credit card.

• Every purchase with the Coinbase One card earns Bitcoin rewards.

If you want to earn Bitcoin, just use the Coinbase One credit card for your purchases. Here’s what to know about this new card:

Overview of Coinbase’s Credit Card

Coinbase is introducing a new card called the Coinbase One Card, which is an American Express credit card. It’s different from Coinbase’s Visa debit card. The credit card is offered through a partnership between Cardless, Inc., American Express, and First Electronic Bank.

The card is made of stainless steel and weighs 17 grams. The original Genesis Block—the first block ever mined on the blockchain—is etched into this black stainless-steel card. Also engraved on the front is the message from that first block:

The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks

While the design celebrates crypto history, the partnership with American Express adds traditional credit card benefits that many users will appreciate.

Eligibility for the Coinbase Credit Card

Coinbase’s credit card is only available to customers with a Coinbase One membership. You must also have a residential address in one of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia. Residents of U.S. territories or other countries are not eligible to apply for the Coinbase One card.

Getting the Coinbase Amex Card

U.S.-based customers who want the Coinbase One card need to sign up for a One membership first. Coinbase offers three membership levels: Basic, Preferred, and Premium. Members can pay monthly or yearly.

Once your Coinbase One membership is active, you can apply for the card. Log into your Coinbase account on the website, select “Credit Card” from the left-hand menu, and click the application button. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. Coinbase may perform a hard inquiry on your credit report during the application.

You can also apply through the Coinbase mobile app. Log in, tap the “Credit Card” icon on the bottom menu, and follow the same steps as on the website.
