Crypto Education

Coinbase’s website and mobile app both have learning materials that are really useful for beginners and seasoned pros alike. These materials cover the basics and go deeper into more advanced topics like gas fees and DAOs. During our research, we found these articles:

- Understanding your crypto taxes
- What is a governance token?
- Proof of Work (PoW) vs. Proof of Stake (PoS): what's the difference?

Software

Coinbase Advanced is the company’s web-based trading platform. It delivers charts with lots of tools, including indicators and drawing gadgets. We counted 12 plot styles, which should be enough to please the most demanding of traders.

The platform’s order ticket has 3 trade types (market, limit, and stop limit) and 3 duration choices (GTC, immediate or cancel, and good-til-specified). Execution can be set to allow taker or post only. A trade can be placed in an amount of USD or the cryptocurrency.

An order book sits in a column in the middle of the platform; a column for trade history has its own tab.

Then there is the mobile app, which has a lot of the same tools; there are watchlists, charts, and an integrated order ticket. A wallet app helps to store and transfer coins.

Fees and Minimums

Coinbase charges fees for trading or exchanging cryptocurrencies. A variety of issues can affect the total cost of a transaction, including geographical location and order size. The exact fee will be displayed on Coinbase’s software before an order is submitted. On a simple buy or sell order, a spread of up to 1.2% is included in the quoted price, and this spread compensates Coinbase for its service.

Funding an account at Coinbase can also carry fees. ACH transfers are free, while using a debit or credit card incurs a 3.99% fee.

Coinbase Crypto List Summary

Coinbase does have some useful crypto services. However, its fee schedule can be mystifying and convoluted, so be sure to do some comparison shopping before picking your next crypto broker.
