What Can I Trade on Coinbase?

Coinbase is one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. One of their many services is to allow users to buy and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum Classic, and many more with fiat money. If you are an investor looking for a place to trade your crypto holdings on Coinbase, this blog post will explain what they offer.

How to create a trade on Coinbase

To begin trading on Coinbase, an investor must create an account. One of the great features of Coinbaise is the ease of signing up for a new Coinbase account. Users begin by adding their bank account or credit card details and immediately start buying cryptocurrency after verifying the payment method. There is no need for users to input personal information such as traditional financial data such as social security numbers, ID numbers, etc. This feature helps protect customers from unauthorized access and use of their personal information.

Once an investor has an account and bank link for fiat currency, they can begin trading quickly. Simply log in and select the asset you would like to trade. With each asset, the user will choose to buy, sell, or convert that cryptocurrency to another cryptocurrency.

Types of trades you can make on Coinbase

Currently, users can buy, sell or convert cryptocurrency on Coinbase. The company is working on setting up the ability to stake cryptocurrency through its platform soon. Users are now able to sign up for a waitlist to be able to stake their currencies.

What is Crypto Staking?

Crypto staking involves locking up part of a wallet's digital currency into a stake. This staking creates stability within the currency's blockchain and allows users to earn rewards. Returns on staking cryptocurrencies can yield upwards of 10% annually, giving users a viable option to grow their digital assets.

Those who wish to stake cryptocurrencies can sign up for this waitlist by verifying their information and waiting until the company begins this process.

List of Crypto Assets Currently Available on Coinbase

Coinbase is a great broker to start investing in cryptocurrency with an extensive and growing list of crypto assets. The list of coins offered on Coinbase is Extensive.

When NFT tokens first came to Coinbase, they were not supported by the Coinbase wallet and thus could not be sold or traded on this platform.

A user can simply click on the Buy/Sell button and search for the asset of their choice. In the future, Coinbase plans to expand its currency trading options to other currencies as well.

Fees for trading on Coinbase

Coinbase trading fees can vary. According to Coinbase's internal documentation, "Fees are calculated at the time you place your order and may be determined by a combination of factors including the selected payment method, the size of the order, and market conditions such as volatility and liquidity. The applicable fees will be listed in the trade preview screen, which will be surfaced before you submit your transaction and may differ for similar transactions."

For most transactions, Coinbase charges a 1.49% fee on all trades made through bank accounts, which is the only payment method available for US customers. Other countries have different fees. For example, UK users only pay 0.3%. When USDC was first introduced to the market, it had zero fees, so Coinbase customers could trade the stablecoin for free.

If investors opt to utilize the staking feature for crypto, Coinbase currently charges a 25% commission for any distributions from the staking.

Time for Funds to Settle In Coinbase

The time for funds to settle in a Coinbase account varies from coin to coin. For instance, Bitcoin takes approximately one hour until the funds are fully settled and available for trading. Other cryptos such as Ethereum will take much longer than an hour before they become available in your Coinbase wallet - usually between fifteen minutes or up to thirty-two hours, depending on which cryptocurrency you are trading.

These times mentioned above relate to being able to trade the coins on the Coinbase platform. Typically, Coinbase will also be put on a multi-day hold for coins to move them to another wallet or platform.

Coinbase Limits

Current limits vary by account type. Basic users with certain bank accounts can only deposit up to $35,000 of fiat currency at any one time. Withdrawal limits are capped at $50,000 per day for basic users as well. Users can raise their level by doing various verifications and developing a longer account history.

Users can find their limits by signing up for an account.

Coinbase Loan or Margin Lending

Coinbase does not currently support any type of loan or margin lending. That means even though the platform has an option for selling and buying, users cannot utilize these features unless they use a different wallet or leave their cryptocurrencies elsewhere.
