|
How to Open a Non-U.S. Kraken Account
Main Discoveries:
• Kraken offers accounts to residents of many countries around the world. If you are a U.S. resident,
then click here.
• It’s easy to open a Kraken account on the company’s
website or mobile app.
• Not all products are available in all countries.
If you live outside the United States, you can still open a brokerage account with Kraken, at least in the vast majority of cases. Here’s the rundown:
Overview of Kraken Accounts for non-Americans
Kraken operates in most countries worldwide and offers different types of accounts depending
on the region. However, not all products and account types are available everywhere.
More than 190 countries have at least one account option available.
Possible account categories include crypto, stock tokens, and perpetual futures. Securities accounts (for real stocks and ETFs) and crypto futures are only offered to U.S. customers.
In many international regions, Kraken provides both personal and business accounts. Available services may include margin trading, staking, API tools, automatic investing, bundle investing, payment transfers, and more. The complete list of options will depend on the country selected.
Supported Languages
The Kraken website can be viewed in multiple languages. A language selector (globe icon) is located in the top-right corner. Supported languages include:
- English
- German
- Spanish
- French

Ineligible Countries at Kraken
Kraken does not offer services or accounts in the following countries:
- Afghanistan
- Belarus
- Japan
- North Korea
- Russia and some parts of Ukraine
- Sudan
- South Sudan
- Syria
- Cuba
Opening a Kraken Account on the Website
If you live in an eligible country, go to the Kraken promo page and click the globe icon to select your country and language. On the next page, you’ll find an entry form with a toggle switch for account type (individual or business) and an email field. Click the Next button and follow the prompts to complete your application.
You’ll need a tax ID number from your country of residence. Kraken requires identity verification before trading can begin, so be ready for this step, especially for business accounts. The broker has several verification levels, with higher levels offering higher deposit and withdrawal limits.

Opening a Kraken Account on the Mobile App
You can also open a Kraken account through the mobile app. Depending on your location, a purple “Join Kraken” or “Open Account” button will appear. Tap it to begin the same digital application as on the website. Fill out your information and submit the application.
You’ll start with a crypto account. If you want to trade stock tokens or perpetuals, look inside the app after setup for the option to enable these additional trading permissions.
Opening Kraken Account with a VPN
If the account type you want isn’t available in your region,
you can use a VPN (virtual private network) to change your IP address to another jurisdiction. However, you’ll still need to provide verification documents that match the location you select.
Fees and Minimums
Kraken usually has no account minimums or setup fees. Business accounts may require an initial deposit, depending on the country and type of account.
