Its stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange with ticker symbol C. It consistently has annual revenue in the billions of dollars, so this is a very large company. As such, it has a lot of subsidiaries.
One of Citi’s specialties is banking. Citi’s subsidiary in this area is Citibank. Citibank is owned by Citigroup. Therefore, Citibank does not have a stock symbol and does not trade on any exchange. It is wholly owned by Citigroup.

Citigroup Global Markets Inc. is the major investing arm of Citigroup. It is the division that offers securities and investment accounts. These are available in brokerage and investment-advisory formats.
Citigroup Global Markets itself holds subsidiaries that offer different types of investing strategies. The budget firms Citi Self Invest and Citi Wealth builder are within Citigroup Global Markets. So is Citi Personal Wealth Management, which is a full-service investment firm. You can think of these three outfits as subsidiaries within a subsidiary. Ultimately, they’re all companies of Citigroup, just like Citibank is.
Citigroup Life Agency LLC
As we can already see, Citi tries to be a holistic financial firm, and this emphasis is clear in its insurance lineup. Through Citigroup Life Agency, a variety of insurance policies can be purchased. These include annuities, long-term care insurance, and life insurance. These contracts can be obtained through a financial advisor at Citi Personal Wealth Management. Obviously, there’s a lot of interconnectedness within Citi.

Then there are entities in foreign countries. Citi has various subsidiaries around the world, and these will be discrete operations that have somewhat independent lives from U.S. subsidiaries. Some of these will have slightly different names and different programs. For example, Citi Plus is a service in Singapore that offers banking, investing, and education within a single program. Whatever names are being used, these overseas companies are all owned by the same parent company, which is Citigroup.
