Does Robinhood Offer International Stocks in 2026?

Foreign Stocks at Robinhood: Points to Know

• There are a few ways traders at Robinhood can invest in foreign securities.

• Robinhood does not provide broad direct access to foreign exchanges, although it supports some stocks that trade on Canadian and Israeli exchanges.

• Direct trading on foreign exchanges is possible at Charles Schwab through the Schwab Global Account.

Overview of Foreign Equities at Robinhood

Although Robinhood does not provide broad direct access to foreign exchanges, it is possible to invest in global securities through ADRs, international ETFs, certain OTC securities, and a limited number of other supported foreign stocks. For the full scoop, keep reading.

International ETFs on Robinhood

The first method we’re going to look at is global funds. Trading on the major American exchanges as ETFs, these funds hold all sorts of international assets, from real estate to commodities to securities. Robinhood offers access to these exchange-traded funds, and buying them is just as easy as buying any other ETF on the broker’s platform.

Finding such ETFs takes just a bit of work on Robinhood’s website. On the dashboard, scroll down to the section on Trending Lists. These are collections of stocks and funds that fall into certain categories. One of these groups is ETFs. Click on the icon for this collection. On the next page, there is a sub-collection of various types of ETFs. Click on the button for Regional ETFs. This is the assortment of global funds that hold foreign securities.

American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on Robinhood

The second idea is to buy American Depositary Receipts, also known as ADRs. These securities are certificates that represent ownership of shares in foreign companies. Many ADRs trade on the major American exchanges just like stocks, while others trade in the OTC market. Robinhood offers many ADRs, although not all of them. It’s best to know the ticker symbol or company name of the ADR you’re interested in and simply type it in the search bar. It’s also possible to enter a country name; Robinhood’s website or mobile app will return a list of ADRs from that country.

When we entered BABA for Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., we received a profile with news articles, analyst ratings, and earnings performance. The trade ticket works the same as for a regular stock; it was already populated with the ticker symbol BABA.

OTC Stocks

Robinhood supports certain OTC equities but not the full OTC market. Its supported OTC securities include some ADRs, such as ALIZY (Allianz SE) and NPSCY (Nippon Steel Corporation). These will show up in country lists (e.g., enter Germany or Japan on the website or mobile app).

Cost of Global Trading at Robinhood

Robinhood charges $0 commissions on supported stocks, ETFs, and OTC securities. Some ADRs may have custody fees, though.

Schwab as an Alternative

Traders who can’t settle for the indirect methods mentioned above can open a brokerage account at Schwab and buy and sell securities directly on foreign exchanges. The Schwab Global Account provides online access to 12 foreign markets in their local currencies, while Schwab supports international securities trading in more than 30 countries through its various global-investing services.

The downside is that Schwab charges commissions on these foreign trades. In a Schwab Global Account, online commissions vary by market and are charged in local currency, along with applicable local broker fees. In a standard Schwab brokerage account, broker-assisted trades placed directly on a foreign exchange cost the greater of $100 or 0.75% of principal.

Schwab’s software makes trading such securities easy, though. For instance, there is a global stock screener on Schwab’s website that can look for international equities. And research reports are available on some of the big names. Transactions show up in an account’s online history, and real-time quotes are available for Schwab Global Account markets during foreign market hours. Global Account trades are placed in local currencies, while foreign-exchange trades through a standard Schwab brokerage account are broker-assisted and settle in U.S. dollars. Schwab has a global trading desk with international specialists for customers who need a little extra help.
