Commissions and Trading Costs

Trading is always completely commission-free at Webull, except for the minor regulatory trading fees that all brokers pass on to their customers and average only a few pennies per trade. Webull also doesn’t charge you any account maintenance fees or require any minimum account balances to open an account.

Investment Offerings

Arguably the biggest downside to trading with Webull is their small investment universe, which is one of the most limited selections of investments we’ve seen with any broker. Webull lets you trade most U.S.-listed stocks, ETFs, and options but nothing more. Foreign-listed equities, penny stocks, mutual funds, and bonds are all out of the picture and not supported on Webull’s platform. This is disappointing, especially considering that competitors with $0 commissions, like Firstrade, offer quite a bit more.

Other Fees

Even though there are no commissions at Webull there are still a few fees to be aware of. Webull charges between $8 and $45 for wire transfers but luckily the more commonly-used ACH transfers are free. Transferring your Webull portfolio to another broker will also cost you a flat $75.

Trading Platforms

You may notice that Webull’s website looks a bit plain and sparse, and this is partly because they do not support trading through the website; it is largely used for its help section and to advertise their platform to new traders. All trading happens through their mobile app in addition to their downloadable web and desktop apps.

Customer Service

Webull’s website has a self-help section with answers to common questions. For any inquiries that aren’t answered here they have an in-app messaging service. On negative note, Webull doesn’t have a phone number for customer support, which can make it more difficult to get help with more complex inquiries.

Stock Information

Webull’s app provides all the basic company profile information you’d expect to find from your broker. This includes, company and market news headlines, financial statements, analyst ratings, and stock charts. Webull also provides real-time market data free of charge.

Stock Alerts and Calendars

One feature on Webull that we were impressed with was the ability to set custom price and volume alerts for the stocks you follow. This can be useful if you are monitoring a few stocks for an entry point, perhaps looking for a price or volume signal. Webull can automatically notify you when those conditions are triggered so you don’t have to worry about missing out on the right timing for a new opportunity. The app also includes a customizable financial calendar, which tracks earnings and dividends dates for the stocks you’re watching.

Virtual Trading Feature

Another feature on Webull that we liked was its virtual trading tool that allows you to paper trade. This is great for new and experienced traders alike as it allows you to get simulated market experience and test out new investing ideas in a practice mode so you don’t need to risk your capital until you’re confident in the strategy.

To recap, what we liked most about Webull was its practice trading platform, which is free to use, and the customizable stock alerts you can set to monitor for attractive entry points.
