On the other hand, some other brokers like Fidelity and Schwab do impose minimum deposit requirements to open a securities account.

Capital One Brokerage Account

Capital One Investing also offers Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), which carry no special fees and have no minimum deposit requirement. In contrast, a Schwab IRA requires a $1,000 opening deposit. Capital One Investing provides several types of IRAs, including Roth, Traditional, Rollover, and SEP.

Investors looking to maximize their trading potential can utilize margin trading at Capital One Investing. Currently, a debit under $10,000 incurs an annual interest rate of 7.75%. This rate is lower than those offered by Charles Schwab (9.25%) and Fidelity (8.575%).

Trading Tools

Capital One Investing operates on its own platform, which does not have any frequent trader requirements, unlike brokers such as Merrill Edge and Etrade that impose trading requirements for using advanced platforms.

The broker's platform offers essential features, including order entry, charting, options research, market news, and account and position data. It also provides a valuable tool for strategy testing. The platform can be launched directly from the website, opening a separate window in the browser.

Designed with option traders in mind, the platform offers excellent search capabilities for option chains and strategies. Users can navigate through various option tactics such as condors, iron butterflies, and diagonals. Clicking on an option generates a trading ticket with all the necessary information pre-filled, streamlining the order entry process.

Capital One Investing has made the platform highly customizable, user-friendly, and easy to learn. It even includes a bond button for fixed-income traders, redirecting users to the web browser for bond research.

The broker also offers a mobile trading platform, with dedicated apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and mobile web. Key features of the mobile apps include market news, order placement, account information, funds transfer, and option and stock search. The iPhone app is compatible with TouchID, adding an extra layer of convenience. There are no charges for using any of the mobile apps provided by the broker.

The broker's app also supports alerts, allowing customers to receive notifications for various events such as order fill, market open, or price alerts. These notifications can be delivered via text message, push notification, or email.

Capital One Investing vs Etrade Cash Management Features

One of the top choices from the online brokers list, Capital One Brokerage provides customers with access to a checking account with free checks, no monthly account fees, and even a Visa debit cards for no cost. These accounts are fully FDIC-insured (up to $250,000) and all ATM fees are reimbursed.

E*Trade also offers FDIC-insured accounts with free Visa debit cards and checks. The ATM rebates are not as solid as Capital One Brokerages, as they require account minimums of $5000 or combined balances of $50,000.

Given the ATM rebates, Capital One Brokerage has the better offering in this category.

Additional Features

A couple of other details should be presented when doing a full review of both of these discount brokerage firms. First, Capital One Brokerage offers clients the ability to trade currencies (forex). E*Trade does not provide this ability to their clients which is a definite miss on their part.

In addition, both firms allow futures trading, although Capital One Brokerage is more expensive at $2.25 per contract versus E*Trades’s $1.50.

The clear winner is Capital One Brokerage.
