Charles Schwab Business Accounts
Businesses and other eligible entities, including corporations and limited liability companies (LLCs), can open investment accounts at Charles Schwab. Schwab's Organization Account offers a broad selection of investments and services at relatively low prices. A $100,000 relationship minimum is required, although assets held across multiple Schwab accounts can count toward this requirement.
Available LLC Types at Schwab
Schwab can open a brokerage account for LLCs with any of the following tax classifications:
- Single-Member LLC
- LLC with C Corporation tax structure
- LLC with Partnership tax structure
- LLC with S Corporation tax structure
Opening a Business Account at Schwab
Although most account types at Schwab
can be opened through its website or mobile app, an LLC account requires a paper application. It is not possible to open an LLC account online. Nevertheless, the best place to begin is Schwab’s online Organization Account hub, which provides information about entity accounts and download links for the applications. Be sure to download the non-incorporated form rather than the incorporated form because an LLC is an unincorporated business structure.
Once the correct form is downloaded, it must be completed with the required information. These details include the Social Security numbers and driver's license information of the relevant people associated with the account. Because the PDF is fillable, it may be easiest to complete it on a computer, print it, and then sign it. The form can also be downloaded and saved for later use if necessary.
Once the form is completed and printed, the required authorized persons must sign it. After this step is completed, it is time to send the document to Schwab. There are several ways to do this. You can drop it off at a local Schwab branch. A second option is to fax it to (888) 526-7252. Another option is to upload it through the document-upload tool on Schwab's website, although an account login is required. A final option is to mail it to one of the following addresses:
Regular Mail (West)
Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.
P.O. Box 982600
El Paso, TX 79998-2600
Regular Mail (East)
Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.
P.O. Box 628291
Orlando, FL 32862-8291
Once Schwab receives the completed form, it will process the application. A few business days may be required to complete this process. When Schwab is finished, it will send the account number to the people listed on the account application. This account number can be used to log in through Schwab's website or mobile app.

Extra Help from a Financial Consultant
LLC account applicants who have questions or need assistance can contact a Schwab Financial Consultant. There is no additional cost to work with a Financial Consultant, although investment-related fees and eligibility requirements may apply. Help may also be available after the account is opened. A Financial Consultant can be contacted at a branch or by calling (866) 516-0483.
Trading in an LLC Account
Once the business account is open, it can provide access to a broad range of investments, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, CDs, cash, and cash equivalents. Access to options, margin, short selling, futures, foreign securities, and other specialized products depends on the account's eligibility and any required applications or approvals. Product availability may also be restricted based on the entity's structure, location, and other account details.
Schwab Business Account Fees and Minimums
Schwab requires a $100,000 relationship minimum to open an Organization Account. This amount can include assets held in the new Organization Account and other Schwab accounts included in the relationship. Schwab states that the minimum may be higher in certain cases. Online trades of U.S. exchange-listed stocks and ETFs have $0 commissions, although other commissions and fees may apply. Online trades of U.S. Treasury securities have no transaction fee, and many mutual funds have no loads or transaction fees.
LLC Education
Login credentials provide access to many resources through Schwab's website and mobile app. Under the Learn tab on the website, there are many educational materials that business-account owners may want to review. During our research, we found these articles:
- Business Succession: 3 Ways to Transfer Ownership
- When to Pay Taxes on Restricted Stock Awards
- Japan: Reclaiming Lost Decades
- Looking to the Futures: Natural Gas Approaches Resistance as Inventories Rise
- Debt Problem More Than Just a Ceiling
- How to Handle an Inherited Business
Charles Schwab Business Account Judgment
Small and large businesses organized as LLCs can find useful investing resources at Schwab. Additional help from a Financial Consultant is available at no extra cost, and online trades of U.S. exchange-listed stocks and ETFs have $0 commissions. The $100,000 relationship minimum may be a drawback, although some businesses may be able to meet it by combining eligible assets held across multiple Schwab accounts.
