Is Webull Premium Subscription Fee Worth It?

Is Webull Premium Worth It?

Primary thoughts:

• Webull Premium costs $3.99 per month or $40 per year.

• Whether Premium is worth the price is a personal question that depends on each trader's situation and trading style.

• We believe Webull Premium is worth it for some traders, but not for everyone.

Before choosing whether to sign up for Webull's Premium service or skip it, you need to look closely at the details. Here is our research on the topic:

Webull Premium Benefits

Premium subscribers at Webull receive several benefits that standard customers do not receive. These include:

  • Lower margin rates
  • Higher APY on eligible uninvested cash
  • Discounted futures contract fees and index options fees
  • A higher match on IRA contributions
  • Free Level II quotes and OPRA data (for non-professional traders)

Webull also extends Premium benefits across eligible accounts in certain situations. The subscription is tied to the subscribing user, and joint accounts can receive benefits when one of the joint owners subscribes.

Not every account receives every Premium feature, however. For example, the extra APY only applies to eligible cash accounts, while margin accounts are not eligible for the higher APY and IRA accounts do not receive the enhanced APY. Managed IRAs also do not qualify for the IRA match.

Drilling Down the Numbers

In order to justify about $4 a month, we need to find savings and/or benefits equal to or greater than that amount. Let's take a look.

Here are the two margin schedules for Premium and non-Premium customers:

Margin LoanPremiumNon-Premium
Less than 25K5.2%8.74%
25K to 100K5%8.74%
100K to 500K4.45%8.74%
500K to 1M4.4%8.74%
1M to 10M4.2%8.74%
10M to 25M4.15%8.74%
25M+3.9%8.74%

A loan of $25,000 carried for one full year would cost $2,185 with Premium. Without Premium, the cost rises to $3,143.75. That's a savings of $958.75 from a subscription that costs $40 a year. That's a very good deal. Larger balances would create even bigger savings. Still, not all traders use margin, so not every Premium subscriber will realize this value.

Webull pays interest on uninvested cash. Premium customers get 3.35%, while non-Premium clients earn 0.5% for balances below $25,000 (3% for balances above that amount). For a cash balance right at $25,000 carried over one year, Premium customers will earn $1,025, while non-Premium customers will get $125. That's a difference of $900, which makes Premium very appealing for customers who regularly hold a high cash balance.

Webull also offers an IRA match of 1% on contributions; Premium customers receive a 3.5% match. With a 2.5% difference, that works out to $175 on a $7,000 contribution, which is more than enough to justify the annual cost of Premium.

Is Webull Premium Worth It: Judgment

Many Webull customers who subscribe to Premium can receive enough value from the program to justify the cost. It is still possible to come out behind on the deal, though, so be sure to compare your benefits with the cost. It's always possible to cancel later if you decide the subscription is not right for you.
