Trust Types

TD Ameritrade has accounts for revocable, irrevocable, living, testamentary, and retirement trusts, such as secular and rabbi trusts. Included in the definition of trust are defined benefit plans.

Opening the Account

To open a trust account at TD Ameritrade, just point your browser to the broker-dealer’s account application page. Here, you’ll be presented with several categories in the left-hand column. First, expand the “Business/Trust” category. For personal trusts, such as revocable and testamentary trusts, click on “Personal trust.” For other types of trusts, such as retirement trusts, click on “Other tax-exempt trust.”

Every trust account at TD Ameritrade requires some amount of paperwork to open. Thus, a trust account can’t be opened online completely. You can start the process online by going to the link above. But to get the account opened, you’ll need to download the required paperwork first. To do this, click on the account type using the link mentioned above, and specify whether you want the forms emailed or snail mailed to you, or if you want to download them.

Once you have the forms downloaded, you’ll need to supply the necessary information and send the documents back to the broker. Once you have done this, your account will be opened and you’ll be able to log into your new account.

If you have any questions during this slightly bureaucratic process, or if you need any help, don’t hesitate to contact TD Ameritrade. The broker posts its new accounts phone number on the application page: 1.800.454.9272.
