How to Open a tastytrade Account in 2026

Opening a tastytrade Account Online
Highlights:
• Opening a brokerage account at tastytrade can be done online without a complicated application.
• Account opening is handled through tastytrade’s website; the mobile trading app itself is not used for this step.
• Eligible U.S. and international customers can submit applications for tastytrade brokerage accounts.
If you’re getting ready to set up a new brokerage account, tastytrade is a broker worth considering. Its website gives applicants a fairly direct way to begin the trading-account application.
New Customers: How to Open a tastytrade Account
To begin opening a brokerage account at tastytrade, simply visit their application page from a desktop browser or mobile browser (tastytrade’s mobile app itself won’t work for this part) and find the button for starting a new account. Depending on the device being used, this button may appear red on the desktop version or white on the mobile version. Click or tap that button to get started.
The online application will open next. The first screen is straightforward and asks for your country of residence. There are many countries to choose from because tastytrade accepts eligible non-U.S. citizens and eligible non-U.S. residents. However, some countries are not available.
This opening screen also asks for an email address, username, and password. A tastytrade password must contain at least 12 characters.
After the required information has been entered correctly, click the blue button at the bottom of the page to create your login. This gives you login credentials, but the actual brokerage account has not been created yet.
The next page of the application collects contact information. A mobile phone-number field appears and automatically uses the country of residence selected on the first page. The country code can still be adjusted if your phone number was issued in a different country. You can add more than one phone number, and applicants can also enter separate mailing and physical addresses.
The following page asks for citizenship details. If you are a U.S. citizen with an address outside the United States, tastytrade may require you to contact the accounts team for help with the application.
Later sections ask for a government-issued ID. A passport number may be acceptable. Other requested details include date of birth, marital status, number of dependents, and any tax-withholding information. Additional pages ask about employment, securities-industry affiliations, and the account type you want to open.
On the tab for Account Activity, the following fields must be completed to continue the application:
- Primary Bank Name
- Anticipated Initial Deposit Amount
- Initial Deposit Type (wire or ACATS)
- Liquidity Needs (not important to very important)
- Expected Withdrawals (frequent to rare)
- Account Activity Type (active trading or long-term investing)
- How did you hear about tastytrade?
Inside the application, an icon in the upper-right corner lets you switch between light and dark modes. There is also an exit button that closes the application.
If help is needed while completing the website application, links are available for the online help center and phone support at 888-247-1963. These resources appear in the bottom-left corner.

Available Account Types
tastytrade offers these account registrations:
- Individual and joint accounts
- Entity accounts
- Individual Retirement Accounts (SEP, Roth, Traditional, and Beneficiary)
- Trust accounts
Availability depends on the customer and location. For instance, international customers can open individual margin, individual cash, and joint accounts, while entity and trust accounts are available only to U.S.-based customers. Some account types, but not all of them, can qualify for margin trading.
Minimum Funding
At tastytrade, a brokerage account can be opened with any deposit amount or with no deposit at all.
Existing Customers
If you already have a tastytrade account, log in to the website and open the Manage tab. From that area, you’ll find a button for adding another account.
Special Note for International Customers
International customers who apply through the tastytrade website must provide digital copies of their government-issued identification. Proof of residency is also required. These documents can be uploaded during the online application, and tastytrade will not begin reviewing the application until all required documents have been received.
Special Note for Domestic Customers
U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens with Social Security Numbers who want to open domestic accounts should lift any credit freezes before sending in tastytrade’s application. The brokerage firm may run a soft inquiry as part of the application review, so a freeze may need to be removed first.
Getting In and Saving Info
The first page of tastytrade’s application asks for an email address and password. Submitting this information and continuing to the next page is enough to create a login for the website. You may be able to sign in to the website and mobile app before the application is submitted, but trading cannot start until the brokerage account has been approved.
During our test of the application, when we left by using the exit button mentioned earlier and later logged back in, the information we had entered was saved.
Time Required to Open an Account
In our test of tastytrade’s online account application, completing the form took about 20 minutes. Approval requires additional time. tastytrade generally approves domestic applications in 1-3 business days. Foreign accounts can take 5-7 business days to process, on average. Mistakes or missing information on a domestic or international application will make the review take longer.
