Schwab Mobile Apps Takeaways
• The differences between Schwab’s main mobile app and its thinkorswim app.
• When you should use the thinkorswim app and when you should opt for the regular app.
• How to use both apps and get the most out of them.
Overview of Schwab’s Mobile Apps
Charles Schwab offers its clients two mobile apps. One of them is simply called Schwab Mobile and is the main app. The other is called thinkorswim and is designed for advanced trading.
Compatibility
Both thinkorswim and Schwab Mobile are compatible with Apple and Android phones and tablets. thinkorswim, but not Schwab Mobile, is designed to function on iPod touch.
thinkorswim requires Android 9 or higher (or iOS 15.0 or later for the Apple folks out there).Schwab Mobile requires iOS 16.0 (or iPadOS 16.0 or later). Not all devices support iOS 16.0 or higher, and these devices will not be able to run Schwab Mobile.
Downloading Schwab’s Mobile Apps
To download either Schwab Mobile or thinkorswim simply head to the App Store on your Apple device or to Google Play on an Android device. Search for “Schwab Mobile” or “thinkorswim” and follow the download instructions.

Schwab Mobile Features
Once downloaded, Schwab Mobile has tons of useful features. Getting into the app is a breeze thanks to fingerprint and face ID logins. After getting inside, a good place to start is in the bottom menu. It has a summary, market news, and a trade button. In the top-right corner, there is an icon for Schwab’s Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is a useful feature to help get around and find resources.
The trade ticket on the app has discrete sections for equities, options, and mutual funds. The options ticket has lots of pre-installed spreads, and the equity ticket has several advanced trade types, including limit and trailing. Charts on the app deliver company events, seven display choices, and over thirty technical indicators.
During our investigation, we found tons of educational materials on Schwab’s regular app. There are news articles from a variety of sources, and video news from CNBC and Schwab Network make appearances. Equity reports are available from multiple sources in pdf format.
Thinkorswim Features
thinkorswim does not host most of the market and security news we found on Schwab Mobile. However, it does have some features that the regular app doesn’t have. These resources include paperMoney®, a simulated-trading feature, and a more advanced order ticket. The trade ticket can submit an order at a custom time, for example. And futures and forex can be traded on the thinkorswim app; these products cannot be traded on Schwab Mobile.
Charting on thinkorswim is on a higher level compared to the main app. Charts have hundreds of technical studies. Level II quotes are also available on thinkorswim. Just tap on a bid or ask price in the Level II pane, and the order ticket will automatically be populated with a limit order at that price.
Although these advanced features create a pro-level feel, thinkorswim does have some weaknesses compared to the other app. For example, there is no mobile check deposit on thinkorswim, and bill pay is missing in action, too. These tools will be found on Schwab Mobile. thinkorswim also doesn’t have the AI we found on the main app.
Fees and Minimums for Schwab’s Mobile Apps
Schwab does not impose any account minimums to use either app, and there are no fees for using the apps.
