Moomoo App Review
Here’s a look at what you can and cannot invest in with the Moomoo trading app.
Tradable Assets
Moomoo Financial lets you invest in a limited set of assets. You can trade:
- Stocks
- Options
- ETFs
- Closed-end funds
- Crypto-currencies
Besides these, you can also trade ADRs and buy shares from the Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen stock exchanges.
Fees and Commissions
Moomoo charges different fees for US and non-US customers.
US customers pay nothing to trade stocks, ETFs, and options. There are no extra contract fees, so it’s good for frequent option traders.
If you live outside the US, stock trades cost 0.49¢ per share (with a $0.99 minimum). Each option costs 65¢, at least $1.99 per order.
Non-US users also pay for the software. There’s a fixed fee (at least $1 per order) or a tiered fee (less if you trade more).
For Hong Kong stocks, everyone pays 0.03% per trade (minimum HK$3), plus a HK$15 platform fee.
There is a $75 outgoing ACAT transfer fee for each security you transfer. So if you move 3 stocks, you pay $225.

Customer Service
Moomoo’s customer service is run by Futu, its parent company. There are no physical locations or a phone number. You can email them at cs@fututrade.com, but live chat is not available.
Desktop Platform
You can use the Moomoo desktop app for trading and analyzing stocks. It works on Windows and Mac, and you can use it as an API.
The main menu is on the left. The Markets tab shows your watchlists (you can have several) and today’s market moves. You can sort what you see by column.
The Trade tab has the order form. It’s simple to use. You only have two time-in-force choices (day and good-til-canceled), and you cannot choose direct routing.
There are six order types:
- Market
- Limit
- Stop
- Stop limit
- Market if touched
- Limit if touched
A helpful feature is the Inside Quote widget (BBO or best bid and offer). It shows the highest price a buyer will pay and the lowest price a seller will take for a stock, live. You can buy Level II quotes for more detail.
You can make charts full screen. You can see over 20 years of price history at once. There are about 60 technical indicators, but they don’t work in tick-by-tick mode. Right-click trading is not there, even though there’s a right-click menu.
You can customize the Moomoo platform with different themes. Click the T-shirt icon at the top right. We tried both purple and dark modes.
Moomoo Mobile App
Moomoo’s mobile app is also useful for research and charts. You can turn your phone to see the chart sideways, and change time frames with a tap. It has technical indicators and drawing tools.
The app has alerts and watchlists. To add or remove a stock, tap the heart icon on the stock page. To set an alert, tap the Alerts tab at the bottom. You can set many kinds of alerts.
Want to practice? Use Paper Trading mode. Tap the Me icon at the bottom, then pick Paper Trading.
Margin Borrowing
Moomoo charges a flat 6.8% for borrowing to buy U.S. and Hong Kong stocks. For China A-shares, the rate is 8.8%. These rates are for buying stocks. The cost to borrow for short selling depends on the stock.
Both Moomoo desktop and mobile show margin info for stocks and ETFs. This includes the short rate (like 3.25% on SPY during our check), the initial margin, how many shares can be shorted, maintenance margin, and more.
Options Trading
You can trade options on both the desktop and mobile Moomoo apps. The app shows chains for calls and puts. There are no multi-leg strategies, but you can see Greek values, which help option traders. There are no advanced options tools, like a strategy builder or probability lab.
Education and Research
Moomoo’s website has an economic calendar with upcoming IPOs, dividends, splits, and earnings. You can sort the events in different ways.
Next to the calendar is a news section. Some stories are from sources like CNBC, and others are written by Moomoo to discuss trading ideas.
Moomoo’s platform has good stock analysis tools. For any ticker you enter on mobile or desktop, you’ll see:
- Short selling data
- Technical trends
- Backtesting
- Price ratios
- Analyst ratings with price targets
- Financial statements with bar charts
- News articles
- Posts from Moo on that stock
- And more...
There’s a good stock screener on the desktop platform. You can scan U.S. and Chinese markets. Find it under the Opportunity tab.
ETF Resources
You can search for ETFs with the Moomoo screener, including funds from Shanghai and Shenzhen. The search filters are basic. You can search by region, industry, or asset class.
ETF pages don’t show as much information as stock pages. For example, you won’t see backtesting or ratings from third parties. ETF profiles do have margin info, option chains, capital flow trends, and news.
Other Services
IRAs: Not available.
Fractional-share Trading: Available.
Dividend Reinvestment Program: DRIP is not offered, though it would be a useful feature.
IPO availability: The app and desktop both list upcoming IPOs in the US and China, with release dates. You need settled cash to join.
Extended Hours: You can trade before the market opens from 4 a.m., and after the close until 8 p.m.
Moomoo Stock Trading App Verdict
Moomoo stands out for its margin rates, social features, and access to Chinese stock markets.
