Fidelity Trader+ (Web, App, and Desktop) Platforms

Fidelity Trader+ Review

Key Takeaways:

• Fidelity has rolled out a new family of trading platforms called Fidelity Trader+.

• There are no platform fees or minimum balances required to access any version of Fidelity Trader+.

• Fidelity is currently offering waived options contract fees for 6 months on trades placed through Trader+ platforms for eligible accounts that enroll in the offer.

If you trade actively at Fidelity, it’s worth taking a look at the broker’s new software package. Below are the details on the Trader+ platforms:

Overview of Fidelity Trader+

Fidelity has built a new trading platform lineup known as Trader+. It comes in three versions: desktop, mobile, and web. Each one has useful tools that active traders will likely appreciate.

Fidelity Trader+ Web

To open Trader+ Web, sign in on the Fidelity website and go to the Accounts & Trade tab at the top menu. Hover over it and select Trader+ Web from the drop-down list. The platform will open automatically in a new browser tab.

In the browser version, Trader+ offers prebuilt layouts and a customizable workspace. Switching between views is simple using the controls in the upper-left corner, and tool panels can be moved and resized to match your preferences.

In each layout, you’ll see alert and watchlist icons next to a ticker symbol. You can enter a ticker in the search box at the top, or click a symbol inside a watchlist to open the security’s profile page.

A chart is available in all three layouts. Fidelity has included several helpful charting capabilities. Examples include:

  • 23 plot styles
  • Over 100 technical indicators
  • 40 drawing tools
  • 3 company events
  • 4 account events

You can also right-click on the chart to place a limit or stop order at the selected price level.

Trader+ Web also supports layout adjustments beyond just theme changes. Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner to switch between light and dark modes and manage other display preferences.

Fidelity Trader+ Mobile

To use Trader+ on mobile, start by opening the standard Fidelity mobile app. Tap the head-and-shoulders icon in the upper-right corner, then scroll down on the next screen and select General Settings. On that page, scroll down to find the toggle switch that enables Trader+ mode.

Once Trader+ mode is turned on, the app gets a refreshed layout, including a new tab in the bottom navigation menu. Tap Markets to access a wide set of news and research features. You’ll see market movers, sector performance data, bond yields, international stock indexes, and more. Bloomberg TV is also available on the Markets page as an added feature.

To open the trade ticket, tap the Transact button in the bottom menu. The ticket lets you choose either share quantity or dollar amount, and it includes 8 trade types. Directed trading can also be enabled by tapping the gear icon at the top of the order ticket.

Fidelity Trader+ Desktop

The most advanced Trader+ experience is offered through the desktop platform. It works on both Windows and Mac, and it requires logging in each time it is launched. While that extra step may feel inconvenient, the desktop software includes tools that are not available on the web or mobile versions.

During our test of the desktop program, we saw features such as:

  • Level II quotes
  • Time & sales data
  • Market scanner for options and stocks

These tools and other features are located under the Tools tab in the top menu. The desktop order ticket also includes enhanced functions that are not found on the other two versions. Available order types include:

  • OTO
  • OCO
  • OTOCO (bracket order)

Unlike the web and mobile platforms, Trader+ Desktop is highly customizable. In addition to light and dark themes, there are many settings that can be adjusted. To view the full list of options, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

Custom layouts can also be saved on the desktop version. To do this, click the workspace button in the upper-left corner of the platform.

Charts on the desktop platform include the same advanced charting features found on Trader+ Web.

Fidelity Trader+ Fees and Minimums

Trader+ has no account minimum requirements, and Fidelity does not charge anything to access the platform in any format. In addition, Fidelity is currently offering waived options contract fees for 6 months when option trades are placed on any of the three Trader+ platforms. Enrollment is required for this offer. To sign up, log into the Fidelity website and click the Fidelity Trader+ link under Accounts & Trade. Then scroll down and click the button to claim the promotion.
