Chase Brokerage Promotion Details
If you’ve been thinking about opening a new brokerage account, now may be the time. J.P. Morgan
Investing is offering up to a $1,000 cash bonus for opening a new account with new money.
This deal from Chase could be too hard to pass up. Here are the primary rules:
Open a new investment account with a cash deposit or account transfer of at least $5,000 and get $50.
Deposit at least $25,000 and get a $150 cash prize.
A deposit or transfer at J.P. Morgan of $100,000 receives a $325 bonus.
And a deposit/transfer of $250,000 or more gets the grand prize with this Chase brokerage
promotion offer: $1,000.
Although a quarter of a million dollars may sound like a lot, J.P. Morgan Investing will accept a 401k rollover or account transfer for the minimum funding. Here’s the rest of the fine print:
Deposit or transfer must come from outside the J.P. Morgan family of companies. This family includes Chase Bank, so a transfer from a Chase savings or checking account won’t qualify for the promotion.
Besides a cash deposit, a transfer of securities can also be used to qualify for the minimum level of funding.
New funds must be received within 45 days of account opening.
New account must be opened from J.P. Morgan Investing’s promo page. If the new account is opened through an advisor, it won’t qualify.
New funds must stay in the J.P. Morgan brokerage account for a minimum of 90 days.
The cash prize will be credited to the new brokerage account within 15 days after the 90-day requirement has been met.
J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing accounts are eligible for the cash prize. These include
IRAs (Roth and Traditional) and joint and individual taxable accounts.
Only one cash prize is allowed every 12 months across
Chase Private Client Checking, Chase Sapphire Checking, and J.P. Morgan Investing accounts.
Any cash prize received by U.S. citizens will be reported to the IRS on Form 1099-MISC. Bummer. Even foreigners get reported on Form 1042-S.
Reasons to Open a Chase Investing Account
Chase Investing delivers several strong points for self-directed traders. These include a user-friendly website and mobile app, both of which have the ability to link to other financial accounts with J.P. Morgan (such as deposit accounts with Chase Bank).
Self-directed customers will also benefit from Portfolio Builder. This is a web-based tool that helps customers create diversified baskets of low-cost ETFs. It’s a good way to get a little extra help in a self-directed account. There is a $2,500 account minimum to use the tool.
For traders who don’t need any assistance, a Chase brokerage account comes with $0 commissions on stock and ETF trades. Options are 65¢ per contract. The broker-dealer has over 3,000 mutual funds, and all of them are no-transaction-fee funds.

I work in investment analytics and have been investing in the market since I was in high school. I enjoy anything that involves lots of strategy (i.e. a good game of chess), which is why I was naturally drawn to investing and researching companies. Outside of investing, I’m a big fan of the outdoors. In summer, you’re most likely to find me kayaking, camping, and hiking in the mountains.
