Transfer Webull to TD Ameritrade OR Vice Versa in 2023

Instructions on how to move TD Ameritrade stocks to Webull or vice versa: ETFs, IRA, brokerage assets, and money in 2023. How much is a transfer fee and how long does it take.

How to Transfer Between Webull and TD Ameritrade

Whether you’re at Webull or TD Ameritrade, you can transfer your investing account to the other firm using an easy system called the ACAT network. With the following step-by-step guide, you’ll be able to make the move easily.

Transferring from TD Ameritrade to Webull

Step One: The first thing you want to do is open a Webull account. While this sounds pretty obvious, it’s important to do this first just in case there’s a delay in getting your new Webull account up and running.

You’ll want to be sure that the account type is the same account type you have at TD Ameritrade (Webull only offers individual accounts and IRAs). The names on the two accounts must also match.

Step Two: The next thing you need to do is make sure your TD Ameritrade account is ready to be transferred. Open orders need to be closed out, and all trades should be settled. Forex and futures positions cannot be moved to Webull, so these holdings need to be in a discrete TDA account or they need to be closed out (if doing a full transfer).

Step Three: Submit your transfer request to the new broker, which in this case is Webull. To do this, you’ll want to log into your account and then go to My Account (click on your name in the upper-right corner of the site).

You’ll see a vertical list of links on the left-hand side of the new page. Click on the one that says Transfer Stocks. The website will now display a digital transfer form. You’ll need to select the Webull account to transfer into (in case you have more than one account) and then select TD Ameritrade as the outgoing broker.

Webull will accept either a full or partial transfer. If you want to transfer option contracts, you must select full transfer. If any contracts expire in less than 2 weeks, Webull will reject the transfer. Moreover, Webull will not accept any transfer valued under $500.

Be aware that TD Ameritrade charges $75 per outgoing full account transfer. The easy workaround in this case is to do a partial transfer because TDA charges nothing for a partial transfer. Webull charges nothing for a full or partial incoming transfer.

Moving a securities account in the other direction also utilizes the ACAT grid. The basic steps are the same, although precautions and warnings will be different in the opposite direction.

Step One: When opening a TD Ameritrade account, it’s especially important to make sure the account type matches what you have at Webull because TDA offers many account types that Webull doesn’t. As already stated, the two account types in an ACAT transfer must match exactly.

Webull offers three account types: individual, Roth IRA, and Traditional IRA. Be sure to open one of these three at TD Ameritrade.

Step Two: Now, it’s time to prepare your Webull account for moving. Cryptocurrencies cannot be sent through the ACAT system, so any crypto positions need to be in a separate account or closed out (for a full transfer). Everything else at Webull can be moved to TD Ameritrade. For a full transfer, trades need to settle, and open orders need to be closed.

Step Three: Now it’s time to fill out TD Ameritrade’s transfer form. To find this, log into your account on the website and hover over My Account in the top menu. Then select Deposit underneath Deposits & Transfers. Scroll down and select Account transfer from another brokerage.

Transfer Webull Stocks to TD Ameritrade

Although TD Ameritrade’s form provides a list of possible outgoing brokers, Webull isn’t among them. Instead, you’ll need to select Webull’s clearing firm as the outgoing broker. It is Apex Clearing. You’ll also need a recent Webull account statement.

If you’re away from your computer, you can perform an account transfer using the TD Ameritrade mobile app. Tap on the More icon in the bottom menu, then Transfer funds, then Account transfer.

Although TD Ameritrade charges $0 for an incoming account transfer, Webull charges $75 for an outgoing transfer. Save your last Webull statement that shows this charge, submit it to TD Ameritrade, and they will refund the fee.
